David went to Nob, to Ahimelek the priest. Ahimelek trembled when he met him, and asked, “Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?”
1 Samuel 21:1
What a great question! Something is wrong if you find yourself all alone. This doesn’t mean that David was in the wrong, but something was wrong because David was all alone. Our enemy loves to get us all alone. Satan tempted Jesus when He was all alone in the desert and on the cross. Life is a dangerous place to be all alone. Our friends can leave us alone if we choose to live wrongly. It’s important to know the difference and know when we’re different. David’s actions here will cost a man his life. Ask the question, “Why are you alone?” If you don’t know the answer, you won’t know the action to take next.
