The Kitchen Table Devotional
David Day 99
David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath. 13 So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.
1 Samuel 21:12-13 It does not take long to fall from dignity to disgrace. We fall faster than we rise. Once David victoriously carried the head of Goliath of Gath, and now, he feared for his own head before the king of Gath. Times change, but that is not the problem; we change from purity to pretending. We start worrying about our own skin, listening to our own thoughts, and trying to fit in rather than stand out. Deception is the key and the motive of someone running scared. Listen and learn. We quit on God, but God doesn’t quit on us.
