The Kitchen Table Devotional

David Day 119

Behold, this day your eyes have seen how the LORD gave you today into my hand in the cave. And some told me to kill you, but I spared you. I said, ‘I will not put out my hand against my lord, for he is the LORD’S anointed.’

1 Samuel 24:10

Sometimes it’s just important to see!  For people bound up by fear and foolishness, sometimes only seeing will touch their hearts.  The problem is that we can get deeply invested in our hurt and hate, and appealing to the heart and mind just won’t work; we have to see.  Let people “see” your heart, your convictions, and compassion.  That can only happen when we live out what we believe in.  That means we can’t afford to get too invested in our hurt and hate.  Those things lead to violence and the violation of other people’s dignity.  What David did, in obeying God, was to let the world see his heart, and it saved him.
