The Kitchen Table Devotions

1 Corinthians 1  Day 2

Text:  1 Cor 1:9-17

10 Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no  divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.

1 Corinthians 1:10

Thoughts:

The secret to this abundant and powerful Christian life is about coming into agreement with God, about God, and for God.  Every other discussion is about personal likes and dislikes.  When this life becomes about our personal likes and dislikes rather than the life and light of God, things start going south.  It all begins with coming into agreement with the Spirit and the Scripture personally.  He who knows everything now lives in you and I but we struggle and sour because we want to agree with the flesh rather than the Father.  Live in agreement with the Almighty and see the amazing life of God.

The Kitchen Table

1 Corinthians 1  Day 1

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony concerning Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8  who will also confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:4-8

You were made for today.  The saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ has cleaned us, called us, and commissioned us to be His witness in this world.  You lack no gift.  The only thing that can sideline you is your own tongue of unbelief.  God claims you as His and Jesus will confirm that on the day He returns.  Be the positive voice of the Holy Spirit today.

The Kitchen Table Devotional

2 Thessalonians 3 Day 9

If anyone does not obey our instruction  in this letter, take special note of that person  and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame. 15 Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but  admonish him as a brother.

2 Thessalonians 3:14-15

Someone said, “A man is known by the company he keeps.”  Anyone who isn’t looking for Jesus to return isn’t your good friend, but if you’re not careful, he will be your foe.  Anything that distracts you from the coming of Jesus, shouldn’t be driving your life.  Be the light, not the dark.  Jesus is coming again.  If you’re not looking, you’re not going.

The Kitchen Table Devotional

2 Thessalonians 3 Day 8

But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good

2 Thessalonians 3:13

Don’t let anyone or anything distract you from what God is doing through you.  All that gibber jabber by those busybodies in life is just a waste of time and resources.  Jesus is coming!  Until He gets here, our work and His will for us is not complete.  Evil is a perversion of good and easily distracts us.  God is the unadulterated work, work, and will of God.  Every good and perfect gift comes from God.

The Kitchen Table Devotional

2 Thessalonians 3  Day 7

For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread. 13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary of doing good.

2 Thessalonians 3:11-13

An undisciplined life is for pretenders.  Unable to rule and reign over their own lives they involve themselves with others.  These are pretenders who pretend to be what they can only pretend to be.  Don’t pretend and you won’t have to pretend to be about the Lord’s will.

2 Thessalonians 3  Day 6

For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. 12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread.                    2 Thessalonians 3:11-12

Never underestimate the power of working, especially, working with God.  Nothing gets our eyes off the sky like taking our hands off the work that God has called us to do.  Only those who keep working will keep looking for the Master to come back.

The Kitchen Table Devotions

2 Thessalonians 3 Day 5

For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.

2 Thessalonians 3:10

It’s interesting that Paul writes about work to a group that was worrying about missing the rapture.  Worklessness life leads to a warped life with time to worry and waste our lives away.  Even in retirement the Christian is working in the kingdom until the end.  Working keeps our mind and body moving as we keep looking and living for Jesus.

The Kitchen Table Devotional

2 Thessalonians 3  Day 4

For you yourselves know how you ought to  follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you, 8 nor did we eat anyone’s bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you; 9 not because we do not have the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you, so that you would follow our example               2 Thessalonians 3:7-9

Find someone who is living larger than you are and let them be your example.  People who live large, have a conviction of their conscious to live for Christ.  And an example lives with the conviction and choices it takes to be an example.  Don’t settle for nominal Christianity, there is no such thing really, or you will miss the rapture.  Only those who are looking are going.

The Kitchen Table Devotional

2 Thessalonians 3  Day 3

Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you  keep away from every brother who leads an  unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us.            2 Thessalonians 3:6

In this last day, it’s important to be aware of who you are attached to in this world.  Flee Babylon, she will fall in an hour.  An unruly life is unfitting for a child of God’s Kingdom and family.  The thoughts of the unruly won’t work in the house of the Living God.  Keep your heart clean, confident, and committed to the voice of the King of kings.

The Kitchen Table Devotional

2 Thessalonians 3 Day 2

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 4 We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you are doing and will continue to do what we command. 5 May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.              2 Thessalonians 3:3-5

No matter how bad people get, God is better. Keep looking and listening to Jesus, He will direct your heart into the heart of God.
