The Kitchen Table Devotional:          The Game of Life  Day 60

“Wisdom”

And he said to the vineyard-keeper, ‘Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?’ 8 And he answered and said to him, ‘Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; 9 and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.’” Luke 13:7-9

Wisdom is not still or silent, it shows up bearing fruit.  Wisdom is known by its actions, announcements, assertions.  We can see it in the way we live.  Wisdom is seen in both its conviction and commitment.  Wisdom is a result of what we receive into our lives as good and right and true.  There’s weeding, watering, and nurturing that must happen.  And then we must absorb  what is good, right, and true.  We have a choice to bear the fruit of wisdom or bear the consequences of foolishness.  The preacher writes…

My son, eat honey, for it is good,
Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste;
14 Know that wisdom is thus for your soul;
If you find it, then there will be a  future,
And your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 24:13-14

Wisdom is not still or silent, it may not participate, but it will produce a witness.  Eat the honey of God’s word and enjoy the help of God’s wisdom.
