KTD                                    The Spirit-filled Life                              Day 16

Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. John 14:23

It’s starting to become clear that this life operates on love.  It’s love that motivates us to live for Christ and with Christ.  It’s hard to obey someone we don’t love.  We can, but it’s not easy.  The best way to love Jesus is to love who He is, what He says, and why He says it.   We don’t think about it but to believe Jesus, we must love Him.  To obey Jesus, we must love what He says and why He says it.  It’s all key to living ithis Spirit-filled life.  We entertain the Holy Spirit; we welcome the Holy Spirit because we love Jesus and we love what Jesus gives us through His Holy Spirit.  Get it?  We believe, and we behave, because we love the love, life, and light Jesus brings us by His Spirit.  This isn’t a mere emotional thing.  This is a value thing.  When we value the life and love that Jesus offers us, that’s the moment we start living the life Jesus gives us by His Holy Spirit.   Who or what offers you anything better than Jesus does?

Then David spoke to the men who were standing by him, saying, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should taunt the armies of the living God?” 27 The people answered him in accord with this word, saying, “Thus it will be done for the man who kills him.”

 1 Samuel 17:26-27

Don’t accept the same excuses as the world around you.  Look at how David describes this giant; he’s a Philistine, a reproach, and uncircumcised.  Goliath was nothing more than an ignorant bully.  You don’t have to fear the same things everyone else does when you’ve got God’s word on life.  Not once does he mention this giant’s size and armor.  This guy is a reproach who needs to be put in his place.  Instead of running from your reproach, let God’s revelation become your reality.

David Day 3

Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul’s father, were lost. So, Kish said to his son Saul, “Take now with you one of the servants, and arise, go search for the donkeys.”

1 Samuel 9:3

Don’t take your beginning for granted.  Saul’s story begins with what was lost, and David’s starts with what was won.  Saul stood head and shoulders above the other me, David, not so much.  Saul’s story begins with what he can’t do, while David’s story starts with what he did do.  Life begins with us and what we each think we can and can’t do.  Nothing is said about Saul’s relationship with God, but David is the man with a heart after God.  How we begin greatly impacts how we end.  Something we start with that seems so insignificant, spending time with God, has a great impact on how we live for God.  Saul lost his donkeys but David won his battles with the lion and the bear because his insignificant time with God showed up in those very significant times.

Galatians 6 Day 3

The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with the one who teaches him. 7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Galatians 6:6-8

God has placed in our hands the opportunity to have a good life.  God has given us His word and what we do with His word determines what we have in this life.  From the Spirit we will reap eternal life.  And don’t be greedy or paranoid, thinking that there’s not enough.  An eternal life is more than you and I can imagine.  Let your gratefulness and generosity open the door to greatness.
