The Kitchen Table

Day 23

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.                         John 15:5-10

What can man do to honor God?  That’s part of the plan, honoring God with our love and our life.  But how do we honor the God who is all-powerful, all=knowing, all-loving and all-holy?  What can we do except surrender everything to Him?  What can we do except live in His love with thankful hearts?  We were deceived and damaged by the life and lies of hell and sin, our understanding was warped by what’s wrong and we could do nothing to really honor God except bow our knees and our hearts before the all-loving God and say, “I surrender”.  Our humility is His honor and God is honored or glorified when we let Him do His thing in us and through us.  Only God can do something big enough to bring honor to Him who is Lord of all things.  All we can really do seems like such a small thing but it’s really a very hard thing and that thing is to simply surrender to His love for us.  Surrender to His love.  That’s what honors the Lord who will then be honored when His thing is worked out in our lives.  That’s called bearing fruit.  Living in God’s love is God’s will for us and all we can really do is to surrender to His love and let it do His thing in us and through us.
