From the Kitchen Table Day 24
Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load. Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:1-10
What can a believer do to serve God? Serve others for God! The Bible calls it sowing when we serve because when we live out God’s goodwill personally it affects others publicly. God has chosen to do His will in and through us who believe. God has chosen to change the world today by working His goodwill in us and through us. In fact, we discover God’s will for our lives as we give ourselves to serve God’s will in others. People who don’t know God’s will for their lives probably aren’t showing and serving God’s will to others. When we begin to sow into the lives of others, God begins to show us His will for our lives. And this sowing of God’s goodwill isn’t about being nice but rather obedient to the Spirit. Learning to listen and live by the Spirit is the secret to living in and living out God’s goodwill for our lives. If we don’t live by the Spirit we will live for our flesh, taking care of me and mine. God wants us to know His goodwill for our lives and He’ll show it to us as we make know His goodwill to others.
