The Kitchen Table Devotions
“The Prodigal”
Day 14
So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
Luke 15:15
Something very curious and concerning happens here when the younger son hires himself out to the citizens of the country. He’s the son of a loving and lavish father. He’s given up on love and given in to a life that he once despised. Maybe there’s just to much pride to go home, Pride pummels our purpose in life and promiscuity poisons our perspective. So the young man puts himself in a place of obligation to what he hates rather than possessing the opportunity that he loves. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23) and there are a lot of ways to die without dying but love never stops breathing. Love is still there when everything else is not.
